SAIC closes Reveal acquisition to boost customs agencies sales

As a supplier of explosive detection system and automated threat detection technologies, Reveal supports the efforts of the Transportation Security Administration and other customers in the airport and transportation safety industries, according to an SAIC announcement released today.

“The acquisition will enhance SAIC’s homeland security solutions portfolio, adding TSA-approved EDS baggage screening systems to SAIC’s existing capabilities which include its successful VACIS passenger and cargo inspection systems,” according to the SAIC statement.

This enhanced offering will enable SAIC to better serve customers, including customs agencies, the military and other security organizations worldwide.

Reveal will join SAIC’s Security and Transportation Technology business unit, part of the Infrastructure, Energy, Health and Product Solutions Group, which is led by Joe Craver.

“Reveal’s technology brings a new and valuable capability to SAIC’s overall homeland security offering. This acquisition represents new opportunities for growth,” Craver said in the statement.

Reveal Imaging was founded in 2002 after the Sept. 11 attacks. Its equipment has been certified by TSA to help detect explosive materials in bags, the company said.

Reveal is based in Bedford, Mass.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal contractors.
