Cubic takes first step in cyber solutions expansion

Cubic Defense Applications Inc., a unit of Cubic Corp., has acquired Safe Harbor Holdings Inc., a supplier of customized hardware and software for cyber solutions.

Financial terms were not reported.

Safe Harbor, of Vienna, Va., provides specialized cybersecurity and networking infrastructure solutions, including systems design, cross-domain product development and deployment, according to a Cubic announcement today.

Safe Harbor also provides enterprise network architecture and engineering, access controls, and common cross-domain framework solutions comprised of multilevel controlled interfaces.

The acquisition is the first step in Cubic’s strategic cyber initiative to expand its presence in the rapidly growing cybersecurity market, the announcement stated.

Safe Harbor’s solutions and customer relationships will form the nucleus of Cubic’s cyber delivery capability in the Washington, D.C., area, said Jeff Snyder, vice president of Cyber Solutions for Cubic Defense Applications, in the announcement.

Cubic Corp. is the parent company of three business segments: defense, mission support and transportation systems.

In April, Cubic Defense Systems formed an executive advisory board composed of defense, intelligence, counterterrorism, industry executives and former flag officers to help evaluate strategic growth opportunities for the company.

Board members include retired Navy Adm. Vern Clark, former chief of Naval Operations; and Roger Cressey, former director for transnational threats at the National Security Council.

Cubic Corp., of San Diego, ranks No. 75 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
