SAIC wins $128M contract for Army materiel support

Science Applications International Corp. will provide support services to the Army under a four and a half year contract that has a total value of more than $128 million, if all options are exercised.

The prime contract calls for SAIC to provide centralized materiel management control and distribution services to the Army Sustainment Command (ASC) Distribution Management Center at the Rock Island, Ill., arsenal and at other U.S. Army sites worldwide.

SAIC will help the ASC ensure readiness and accelerate logistics support to commanders and troops in the field, according to a company announcement today.

A subordinate command of the Army Materiel Command, ASC serves as the Army’s logistics integrator for contingency and sustainment support of U.S. fighting forces worldwide, the statement said.

The center provides sustainment-level logistics by synchronizing acquisition, logistics and technology support from the strategic through the operational to the tactical level, it added..

SAIC, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
