American Systems Corp. has named Peter Smith chief operating officer.
American Systems Corp. has named Peter Smith its chief operating officer.
Smith will continue his operational responsibilities as executive vice president, as well as assume new duties overseeing the execution of the company’s organic growth strategy and business development, a company announcement today said.
Smith began his American Systems career in 1980 as a test engineer for submarine and surface ship systems at the Newport, R.I., office. He later became project manager and then director of the company’s Monitoring and Information Transfer Systems directorate.
In 1995, Smith was promoted to director of engineering, focusing on advancing commercial off-the-shelf technology and open system standards in Navy ship design applications.
As executive vice president of operations, Smith oversaw American Systems’ design and installation, human capital and managed services, custom solutions, professional services and government consulting offerings.
As COO, he will help position the company to effectively execute our strategic plan in the years ahead, said William Hoover, president and chief executive officer of American Systems.
Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a master’s in electrical engineering from George Washington University.
