QinetiQ North America will deliver additional sniper-detection systems to U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq through an existing contract.
QinetiQ North America Technology Solutions Group will deliver 235 more of its Ears/Shoulder-Wearable Acoustic Targeting System as the final order on a $10 million contract awarded last year, company officials said Oct. 6.
The Ears/SWATS sniper-detection system helps soldiers quickly pinpoint the origin of hostile fire. More than 1,500 systems are now being used in the southwest Asia theater of war, the officials said.
The sniper-detection system is part of the Army’s continuing efforts to provide infantry with an integrated combat system that can be worn into battle to improve observation and intelligence capabilities. The Army has developed these efforts through the Land Warrior and Ground Soldier System programs.
QinetiQ ranks No. 34 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
