SRA works with new Texas institute to curb cancer

SRA International Inc. is providing a range of management and information technology services to the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas under a five-year contract worth $16.2 million.

Under the contract, which began July 1, the Fairfax, Va., provider of technology and strategic consulting is assisting CPRIT with scientific peer-review support and grants-management services for both research and prevention grants.

Specific expertise will be provided in the areas of scientific management, IT solutions, and the planning and execution of meetings. SRA’s Frederick, Md., office will be primarily responsible for fulfilling the contract, company officials said.

“CPRIT is a new client for SRA and will set the example for other states conducting cancer research and providing grants to scientists,” said Max Hall, senior vice president of SRA Health and Civil Services, in a Sept. 10 announcement.

CPRIT is a state agency created by the Texas Legislature and approved by voters on Nov. 6, 2007. Its goals include fostering innovation in cancer research and creating the potential for medical or scientific breakthroughs in the prevention and cure of cancer.

SRA International ranks No. 26 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
