In 2008, the Census Bureau selected a customer relationship management application from Salesforce.com to manage the bureau’s partner activities and coordinate them among 12 regional offices and thousands of temporary workers. Dan Burton, senior vice president of global public policy at Salesforce.com, was asked to discuss the company’s plans to market the CRM application to other federal agencies.

WT: Does Salesforce have plans to leverage the cloud computing CRM application it supplied to the Census Bureau to other federal agencies?

Burton: Yes. All Salesforce applications are built on our multitenant platform, so they are easy to customize and share across different organizations.

WT:. How do you plan to market the solution?

Burton: Salesforce has created a government-to-government AppExchange, which allows agencies to post their Salesforce applications in a central repository and share them with other agencies. Once the application has been posted, other government agencies can easily access it, test-drive it, customize it to meet their needs, and deploy it.

WT:. Which agencies would seem best suited to use it?

Burton: The Census application was developed to manage partner relationships across the country, so any government agency that needs to track interactions with partners could benefit from this application.
