Lockheed to produce concept for new Navy radar

Lockheed Martin Corp. will conduct concept studies for Navy next-generation air and missile defense radar (AMDR) under a $10 million contract.
Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will evaluate potential systems configurations for the AMDR at its facility in Moorestown, N.J., company officials said Aug. 4.
The AMDR comprises S-Band radar, X-Band radar and a radar controller suite. The company’s work will focus on the S-Band and radar controller suite components of the system, the officials said.
Lockheed Martin was one of three contractors to receive AMDR contracts. Raytheon announced Aug. 3 that it also had won a contract to perform concept studies for the new radar system.
Other phases of the AMDR program, such as technology development, engineering and manufacturing development, production and follow-on support, will occur in future procurements, company officials said.
Lockheed Martin ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
