Cybersecurity strategy must embrace a 'new normal,' Navy CIO will tell Virtual FOSE

The security threats of the future are here, and new strategies confronting the military’s information technology vulnerabilities require a shift in thinking from “old normal” to “new normal” – a transition Navy Chief Information Officer Robert Carey will discuss in tomorrow’s planned Virtual FOSE keynote presentation.

Operation Gladiator Phoenix, which outlines the strategic transition to a new school of thought in Navy cybersecurity, is set for debut as Carey addresses attendees at the Web-based conference and expo scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12.

A makeover of culture, conduct and capabilities will be integral to the success of a new cybersecurity strategy, designed to create a “comprehensive layered defense” that will lay the path for the future of naval computer network defense, according to Carey’s presentation, scheduled for noon ET.

Also on tap at the virtual conference will be experts discussing identity, credential and access management (General Services Administration’s Judith Spencer); government cloud computing (Land Management Bureau’s Patrick Stingley); military electronic health records (Defense Department’s Capt. Michael Weiner, USN); and a panel that will tackle Enterprise 2.0, among other sessions.

The virtual conference, which kicks off at 8 a.m. ET, is also set to include live participant commentary via Twitter and archives available after the conference’s closing at 4 p.m. ET.
