i2 acquires Knowledge Computing Corp.

I2 Inc. has acquired Knowledge Computing Corp., a provider of analysis software to law enforcement agencies. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition strengthens i2’s software capabilities for supporting law enforcement and intelligence operations in the public safety, national security and commercial sectors, company officials said July 2.

After the acquisition, i2 will have 350 employees and support 4,500 public- and private-sector customers, the officials said. Robert Griffin, chief executive officer of KCC, will become CEO of i2, which is based in McLean, Va.

KCC, of Tucson, Ariz., has a software suite called Coplink that state and local law enforcement agencies use to organize and fuse information drawn from different databases and record management systems. The company recently enhanced Coplink by adding a facial recognition module.

I2 specializes in visual investigative analysis software. Its Intelligence-Led Operations Platform helps law enforcement and intelligence officials analyze data.
