Unisys to upgrade Pennsylvania state police network

Unisys Corp. will improve the statewide communications system used by Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies under an 18-month, $6.4 million contract.

Under the contract, Unisys of Blue Bell, Pa., will substantially upgrade the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network, company officials said March 18. The network enables state police to communicate directly with other law enforcement officials at the federal, state and local levels.

Unisys will install a high-capacity network with enhanced features designed to deliver better administrative functionality and greater security, the officials said. The new system will use open architecture to serve Microsoft Windows-based users and also legacy system users.

Pennsylvania law enforcement officials want to upgrade the network so that they can comply with state and federal mandates for information sharing across organizations, the officials said.

Unisys ranks No. 26 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
