CSC wins DHS contract for emergency communications

Computer Sciences Corp. will provide emergency phone service and wireless priority service to the National Communications System under a contract valued at $56 million.

Under the contract, CSC will support the Homeland Security Department’s National Communications System, which encompasses the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service and Wireless Priority Service. Those programs give authorized users top priority on congested networks during emergencies.

CSC will provide services such as engineering and planning; implementation and integration; communications; and operations, administration and maintenance support. The company also will provide next-generation network services and implement a satellite-based pilot program for voice access to the priority systems.

The two-year contract has a base year and an optional year’s extension.

CSC, of Falls Church, Va., has about 92,000 employees and reported revenue of $17 billion in 2008. The company ranked No. 9 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
