CGI to upgrade Medicare Part D services

CGI Federal Inc. will expand its technology services to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under a new contract that could be worth as much as $135 million.

CGI will upgrade the Medicare Advantage and Part D (MA & Part D) Maintenance and Enhancement Services, improving system performance and scalability as enrollments continue to increase, said Cheryl Campbell, vice president of U. S. health care at CGI, in a statement Tuesday.

CMS developed the MA and Part D system to support the legislatively mandated Medicare Modernization Act, which includes prescription drug benefits for Medicare recipients.

CGI was awarded the Medicare Advantage and Part D Maintenance and Enhancement Services contract under CMS’ Enterprise Systems Development indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract.

These systems handle the complex data and transaction processing that is shared by government agencies, plan providers, pharmacies and retirement plans.

CGI will support CMS’ MA and Part D system from its offices in the Baltimore and its Southwest Virginia Delivery Center of Excellence in Lebanon, Va.

The contract will run for five and a half years if all optional components are exercised.
