Cox expands telecom services for government agencies in Virginia

Cox Communications Inc. will extend telecommunications services to military and government customers in Virginia under a Local Services Acquisition contract from the General Services Administration. The award has a maximum value of $57.8 million for a seven-year period.

As a result, military and government customers in GSA’s Mid-Atlantic Region service area will be able to buy voice and data services from Cox throughout Virginia.

The telecom company will provide advanced communications solutions for local, state and federal government agencies in the Hampton Roads area, Roanoke and northern Virginia. As the largest telecom system in Virginia, Cox Hampton Roads will facilitate the program and serve as the GSA liaison for the contract.

Cox, of Atlanta, is the nation’s third largest cable TV provider. The company owns its network and has deployed thousands of miles of fiber throughout Virginia, company officials said.
