SAIC to furnish clean water assistance to EPA

Science Applications International Corp. will support the Environmental Protection Agency’s clean water research activities under a four-year task order that could be worth more than $11 million.

The EPA Office of Research and Development's Software Engineering and Specialized Scientific Support contract calls for SAIC to support the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) that gathers information about public water systems and their compliance with EPA’s drinking water regulations as reported by the states.

Under the task order, SAIC will continue to maintain SDWIS products that support the Safe Drinking Water Act, company officials said. SAIC will enable laboratories to electronically report sampling data to state agencies, collect drinking water data and determine compliance of required information from states. The contractor will also assist with data storage, archiving and verification.

SAIC will also provide user support, training, implementation assistance and production control. The work will be performed primarily in McLean, Va.

The company has worked with EPA to develop and maintain SDWIS since 1993.
