SAIC to advise DOD joint efforts

Science Applications International Corp. will help the Defense Department administer a program that tests and evaluates joint forces’ tactics and procedures under a 32-month, $10 million task order.

Under the task order, SAIC will examine how information on civil affairs is gathered and synchronized to support regional commanders and civilian stakeholders for DOD’s Joint Test and Evaluation (JT&E) program, company officials said Dec. 11.

SAIC also will conduct studies, analyze alternatives and make recommendations on organizational structures and business processes, the officials said.

The studies and analyses will support U.S. forces as they carry out nontraditional operations required to effectively fight the global war on terror, Charles Zang, SAIC’s senior vice president and business unit general manager, said in a statement.

The DOD awarded the task order using its JT&E Engineering Services program, which is administered by the Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s contracting office. The work will be done mostly at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.

The JT&E program evaluates new concepts and addresses needs and issues that arise in joint military environments where one or more military services are involved.

SAIC, of San Diego, ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
