L-3 provides technical services to the Navy

L-3 Communications will provide technical assistance to the Navy under a $10.4 million contract modification.

L-3 Communications Corp. will provide technical services to the Navy under a contract modification worth $10.4 million.

The contract calls for L-3 Vertex Aerospace LLC, of Madison, Miss., to provide specialized technical services to assist with depot-level maintenance work on aircraft and associated components and materials at the Fleet Readiness Center in Coronado, Calif.

Services the company will provide include modifications, in-service repairs, and all other categories of service associated with aircraft maintenance and planning, according to a Dec. 30 Defense Department announcement.

The company will perform the work at the Marine Corps Air Stations in Camp Pendleton, Calif.; Yuma, Ariz.; and San Diego; and at the Marine Corps Air Facility Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii. It will also perform work at the Naval Air Station in Lemoore, Calif.; the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division in Point Mugu, Calif.; and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Bremerton, Wash. Completion of the work is expected in April 2009. The Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake, Calif., is the contracting activity.

L-3 Communications acquired Vertex Aerospace in December 2003. The company is now part of L-3’s Integrated Systems Group.
