Accenture LLP is adding to its defense consulting practice with the planned acquisition of Maxim Systems Inc.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Accenture will add about 135 employees through the deal. Maxim, based in San Diego, works with military and intelligence agencies on systems in command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR). The company provides advanced engineering and technical services.
Maxim's chief executive officer, Jim Wangler, will remain in a leadership position with Accenture after the acquisition closes, the companies said.
The acquisition will be Accenture's third since July, when it acquired the George Group, a consulting firm that specializes in process improvement. In October, Accenture announced it was acquiring the Gestalt LLC, a defense consulting firm. The terms of those deals also were not disclosed.
The company sees the acquisitions as helping it penetrate the C4ISR market more deeply, said Eric Stange, managing director of Accenture's U.S. defense practice.
The acquisition is expected to close in about 30 days.
