Washington Technology receives Neal award

NEW YORK?A May 2005 issue of Washington Technology that led with the hot topic of privacy protection won a Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award today at the annual Neal luncheon held by American Business Media.

Washington Technology's May 23 print issue won in the Best Single Issue of a Newspaper/News Tabloid category.

The award validates the magazine's mission, said Editor Nick Wakeman. "The [Neal] award recognizes the breadth of our understanding of the government IT marketplace, and confirms that we do a good job of conveying news and trends to our readers in a compelling way."

The privacy protection article appearing in the May 23 issue was penned by Staff Writer Alice Lipowicz. The issue also contained articles on IT "boot camps" by Roseanne Gerin; an article on Virginia's IT outsourcing mega deal, by William Welsh; and an article on videoconferencing technology for courts, by Doug Beizer.

Washington Technology's sister publication, Government Computer News, also won a Neal award in the Best News Coverage category for an article by Wilson P. Dizard III on the failure of the FBI's Virtual Case File system.

American Business Media, based in New York, is a national association of business-to-business information providers, and is celebrating its 100th year of operation. This is the 52nd year of the Neal awards.

WT competes in the category for publications with $3 million to $7 million in advertising revenue.
