EDS Corp. won a contract to provide service to the United Kingdom's justice system, said officials from the Plano, Texas-based company.
The National Offender Management Service chose EDS to develop and supply the National Offender Management Information System, which will provide a view of an offender across the whole U.K. justice space, from custody to court through to probation.
The contract ? initially worth $68 million, with the potential of $70 million in additional services ? will be delivered under an existing agreement with Her Majesty's Prison Service.
EDS is ranked No. 6 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list of prime contractors.
The offender system is the underlying technology that will electronically integrate the prison service and the National Probation Service information in real time.
The Offender Management Information System will build a profile of an offender by recording data relating to education and training history, case management, alerts and risks. This information will in turn be used to improve the consistency of offender assessment, allowing officers to make more informed decisions relating to release, interventions and probation.
The consolidated information in this system will also allow for better planning and resource management.
