Horizon Software International LLC of Atlanta has been awarded a $48 million contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to provide food-service management software to the dining facilities of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Under the contract, which runs to August 2011, Horizon will provide a single, integrated food-service system that includes point-of-service and back-office-management software for all food-service operations. DLA will install the system worldwide on land bases, ships and submarines, and in remote battlefield locations.

The OneSource POS system, which manages cost, inventory, purchases, production and menu plans, includes all of the features for any serving-line configuration, according to a release submitted by Horizon.

Currently each of the services uses a different system and many of the systems are outdated and not interoperable.
