CSC takes on Australian Navy work

Computer Sciences Corp. won a four-year, $10.4 million contract to design and install a shipboard and shore-based information technology infrastructure for the Royal Australian Navy, the company said today.

CSC will provide technical, analytical, engineering, program management and administrative support for 17 navy frigates as well as for supply, refueling and support ships and three naval communications stations.

The project will allow ships to have e-mail and Internet connections at sea through secure local and wide area networks for the first time. The system will be interoperable with Australia's coalition partners.

CSC has started work on the program's first stage, which includes the design, production, installation, testing and startup of the local and wide area network system at one land station and on one ship. The second stage will include options to extend the local and wide area networks to two other land bases and 16 ships.

CSC is a system integrator in El Segundo, Calif. It is No. 3 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list of federal contractors, ranked according to their prime IT contracting revenue. The company employs approximately 90,000 workers and had revenue of $14.8 billion for the fiscal year ended April 2.
