Tax system redo

Sedgwick County, Kan., is expected to issue a request for proposals for a real estate and personal property taxation solution in the fourth quarter of 2004. Sedgwick County has an array of applications in its tax system, including appraisal of real and personal property, computation of mill levies, calculation of taxes due and the collection and distribution of various taxes in the county.

Human services consolidation
The New Jersey Department of Human Services' Division of Family Development is planning an RFP in the third quarter of 2004 for a consolidated assistance and support system as part of its effort to re-engineer and integrate all of the division's automated systems. Maximus Inc., Reston, Va., completed a consulting study and an RFP. Federal government partners are reviewing these documents for approval. The agency wants to hire a contractor by January.

Alabama converged network
Alabama is exploring development of a statewide network to carry voice, video and data. The network would reduce overlap and save money. The contractor would design a new network, converging voice, video and data found on three separate networks and an educational network. The RFP is expected in August or September.

Tax system RFP expected
The Colorado Department of Revenue is looking for a vendor to serve as the project manager to gather requirements and prepare a feasibility study for the replacement of state's taxation systems. A request for proposals for the feasibility study is expected in July or August. The state wants a new, fully integrated, open system that uses modern programming languages. It also seeks solutions that will minimize batch processing with more emphasis on a real-time environment.
