BearingPoint to use SAP at Interior Department

BearingPoint Inc., McLean, Va., has chosen software from SAP America Inc. to integrate financial systems at the Interior Department, SAP officials said. Details of the deal were unavailable.

In January, BearingPoint won a 10-year, $125 million contract to build the Interior Department's new financial and business management system. BearingPoint will implement SAP's financial solutions and its NetWeaver application platform to improve integration and information sharing across eight Interior Department bureaus and offices.

The SAP solutions will be rolled out over four years.

Steve Peck, president of SAP Public Services, said his company's software would help the Interior Department "enable transformation and deliver improved transparency of departmentwide operations and resources."

According to SAP, NetWeaver will allow the Interior Department to replace two separate accounting systems and at least 10 other subsystems to enable interoperability across several critical functions, including acquisitions, grants, travel, property and fleet management, real property and budget formulation. The system will give the department's 70,000 employees real-time access to complete and accurate information, thereby strengthening their decision-making capabilities.

SAP America, Newtown Square, Pa., is a division of Waldorf, Germany-based SAP AG. The company had 2003 revenue of about $8.3 billion.

With 2003 revenue of $3.1 billion, BearingPoint ranked No. 33 on Washington Technology's 2004 Top 100 list, which measures federal IT contracting revenue.
