Unisys to help secure DoD's Tricare health system

Unisys Corp. has won a contract from the Defense Department to provide security management, technical support and security certification and accreditation for the Military Health System's Tricare Automated Information System Network Programs.

The contract is for one year, worth $7 million, with four one-year options that could bring the value of the contract to $34 million, the company said.

Tricare is a regionally managed health care program for active duty and retired members of the uniformed services, their families and survivors.

Blue Bell, Pa.-based Unisys will help ensure that the Tricare system complies with the Defense Department's information technology security certification and accreditation process (DITSCAP), which specifies how government agencies must secure their computer information and protect the privacy of individuals.

Unisys has been providing these services to 29 Tricare locations. The new contract expands that to 220 sites.

Unisys developed the DITSCAP standard for the Defense Department in the 1990s under the Defense Enterprise Information Services II contract. The Defense Department subsequently adopted the standard.

Unisys ranked No. 20 on Washington Technology's 2003 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
