GD wins Army subcontract for vehicle navigation

General Dynamics Robotic Systems Inc. has won a $185 million Army subcontract to develop an autonomous navigation system for ground vehicles, the company announced today.

Under the subcontract, General Dynamics of Westminster, Md., and Science Applications International Corp. of San Diego will jointly develop the autonomous navigation system for ground vehicles as part of the Army's Future Combat Systems program.

General Dynamics will be responsible for the design, development, manufacture, integration and testing of a system for autonomously controlling several vehicles, including the Multifunctional Utility Logistics Equipment platform, the Armed Reconnaissance Vehicle and Manned Ground Vehicles. The work should be completed in September 2009.

Boeing Co. of Chicago and SAIC are teamed as the FCS lead systems integrators.

General Dynamics Robotic Systems is part of General Dynamics Corp. of Falls Church, Va. General Dynamics has about 66,900 employees and annual sales of $16.1 billion. The company was ranked No. 7 on Washington Technology's 2003 Top 100 list.
