ACS to provide justice info system to Hawaii

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. will implement an integrated, statewide justice information management solution for all Hawaii state courts, officials of the Dallas company announced today. ACS provides business process and information technology outsourcing solutions.

The contract, awarded by the state judiciary, is worth about $12 million if all modules of the company's solution are implemented.

ACS will provide a suite of case management systems, software modifications, training and installation, data conversion and project management services, as well as imaging solutions from ACS' partner, FileNET Corp. of Costa Mesa, Calif.

ACS' subcontractors are two Hawaiian companies, Commercial Data Systems Inc. and Century Computers Inc.

The ACS case management system will integrate all the state appellate, circuit, family and district courts through a single, unified database. It will allow judges to generate statistics needed for improving case management and court operations. In addition, the system will give the public and the legal community increased online access to non-confidential court information and allow citation payment and document filing over the Web.

Currently, Hawaii's court system uses 11 major systems, which serve different courts and functions. According to ACS, the systems are old, limited in their applications, unable to share data with each other, and not tied to a fiscal accounting system.

Implementation will begin before the end of the year, with the first module ? traffic ? scheduled for completion in about 15 months. The remaining modules ? criminal, civil, family and appellate ? will be implemented over seven years.

ACS employs more than 40,000 people in nearly 100 countries, and had revenue of $3.1 billion in 2002.
