Maine Motor Vehicles Taps Keane for Software

Keane Inc. has won a $11.4 million contract to design, develop and implement an automated and integrated software system for the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, the company announced Sept. 25.

Under the contract, Keane of Boston will migrate the bureau's motor vehicle services software from a 30-year-old mainframe system to a new platform that will result in improved productivity for internal users. Also, Keane will consolidate applications and database systems for increased efficiency.

The project is scheduled for completion in December 2002, company officials said. The new system will deliver a high performance, multiuser, centralized enterprise engine with a modular framework.

The system will be supported by Oracle relational database software and use an ultra-thin client, Web-browser front end.

A component-based architecture approach will support the bureau's objectives and provide flexibility to extend the infrastructure to support any future bureau initiatives.

Keane's services include business innovation consulting, application development and integration and application development and management outsourcing. The company has other state government contracts in Georgia, North Carolina and Maine.

Keane has more than 8,200 employees and annual revenue of $872 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
