A lot of buzz about Google Buzz

In the wake of the new social media tool from Google, the Onion pokes fun at the social media relic Friendster.

Google’s new social media tool Buzz launched Feb. 9, and it set off a flurry of discussion about its future and the future of competitors such as Facebook.

A search on Twitter of just the people I follow returned nearly 100 comments about Google Buzz.

Buzz is built around Gmail, so it is automatically populated with all your contacts. It also is automatically set up to follow the people a user e-mails and chats with the most. It lets users share photos, videos and links.

Buzz integrates tightly with existing Gmail inboxes, so users are alerted to updates in real time.

How big an impact will Buzz have on its competitors? Only time will tell. But check out this great video from The Onion about the social media relic Friendster.
