General Atomics has been tapped by the Army for a $93.3 million contract to develop artificial intelligence solutions for an unmanned aerial platform.

GA will support research, development and test and evaluation of AI for a smart sensor prototype unmanned aerial platform.

Work will take place in Poway, California, the home of the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems division that won the contract. The work runs through March 2, 2023.

It is unclear how many companies bid on the project, but the Army said bids were “were solicited via the internet with 999 received.” It is hard to believe that many bid on the contract, but we’ll watch for any protests just in case.
