Verizon's federal shop brings aboard AWS vet

Verizon hires as its new federal head the former general manager Amazon Web Services' work with the Defense Department.

Verizon has hired nearly 25-year government market veteran and former Amazon executive Jennifer Chronis to lead the telecommunications giant’s federal business.

She will officially join Verizon in early August and succeed Mike Maiorana, the company said Tuesday. Maiorana announced in March that he would leave Verizon at the end of this year after nearly three decaes there to start a new venture.

Chronis was most recently general manager of the Defense Department business unit at Amazon Web Services, the e-commerce giant’s cloud computing segment.

Prior to AWS, Chronis worked at IBM and held several leadership roles including vice president for Big Blue’s DOD business. She is also a nearly two-decade veteran of the Army and served both in active duty and the Army Reserve.
