Lockheed nets $528M contract to provide MDA with interceptors

Lockheed Martin has won a $528 million contract to produce and deliver to the Missile Defense Agency two interceptors for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.

The THAAD system is a key element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System and is effective at protecting America’s military, allied forces, citizen population centers and critical infrastructure from short- to medium-range ballistic missile attacks, Lockheed Martin said in a release.

THAAD employs Lockheed’s “hit to kill” technology to destroy missiles inside and outside the atmosphere, the company said.
