Portman gets Senate contract oversight spot

Ohio Republican Rob Portman replaces Scott Brown as ranking member of oversight subcommittee

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a freshman senator with a long history in Washington, has taken the open seat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s Contracting Oversight Subcommittee, a committee spokeswoman said Feb. 15.

The subcommittee, chaired by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), looks in-depth at contracting issues, such as auditing federal contracts and investigating Alaska Native Corporations’ small-business privileges.

Portman won the Ohio Senate seat in November. He had previously represented a House district in southwestern Ohio from 1993 to 2005. In 2005, he became the U.S. Trade Representative for President George W. Bush. And from 2006 to 2007, he was Office of Management and Budget director in the Bush administration.

The subcommittee’s ranking member slot was left open by Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.).

Please vote to raise the debt limit and extend it past the next national election. We need the Congress to work on creating jobs and helping the Middle and Lower income families get back on their feet. You all need to move on to solving our really serious problems. I'm a Senior citizen and need to continue to receive Social Security and Medicare help. I believe you are one who knows that compromise is necessary to solve our problems. Please confirm my belief.

Please compromise. I am tired of Washington Politics. The debt ceiling needs to be raised. Additional tax loop wholes need to be closed for big companies. The tax burden needs to be shared with all of us. Yes, we need significant tax cuts as well but they need to be done with conscious thought. Don't throw away America's future.
