BAE finishes National Sensor Systems buy

BAE Systems has completed its $8.7 million acquisition of National Sensor Systems, a company that develops and manufactures advanced optical systems primarily for the aerospace and defense industry.

BAE Systems has completed its $8.7 million acquisition of National Sensor Systems, a company that develops and manufactures advanced optical systems primarily for the aerospace and defense industry.

With the acquisition, BAE Systems adds advanced capabilities in remote sensing, photonics and laser communications technologies. The aerospace and defense giant will integrate the Acton, Mass., company into its advanced technologies segment.

Based in Rockville, Md., BAE Systems designs, manufactures and maintains military aircraft, submarines, surface ships, avionics, radar, electronics and weapons systems and provides IT services.

BAE Systems, which has about 45,000 employees and had annual revenue of $10 billion in 2005, ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of the largest federal IT contractors.
