CSC wins $628m Air Force task order

Computer Sciences Corp. of El Segundo, Calif., has been awarded a fixed-price task order worth $627.8 million from the Air Force Materiel Command's 554th Electronic Systems Group for systems integration support to configure, deploy, and conduct training and change management activities for the Expeditionary Combat Support System (ECSS).

ECSS is a commercial, off-the-shelf based logistics support system, part of the Air Force's eLog21 long-term overhaul of its logistics system. ECSS is intended to integrate financials, order management, purchasing, inventory management, distribution and other business functions onto one platform.

With this award, CSC will be providing expertise and resources to launch the COTS enterprise resource planning software being provided by Oracle Corp. of Redwood City, Calif. CSC will not only handle the ERP software deployment, but redesign operations to more rapidly meet warfighters' needs.

Frank Weber, 554th Electronic Systems Wing director, said that selecting CSC as the ECSS system integrator is a key step in support of the Defense Department's logistics modernization effort.

"With the completion of ERP blueprinting by May 2008, this selection will enable the first ECSS capability to be implemented soon thereafter, with deployment of full operational capabilities by January 2013," Weber said. "This capability will more readily support operational requirements, such as Aerospace Expeditionary Force rotations and the Global Strike Concept of Operations."

CSC has about 78,000 employees and fiscal 2006 revenue of $14.6 billion. The company ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology's 2006 Top 100 list of federal IT prime contractors.
