The Defense Information Systems Agency has notified vendors that the deadline to receive proposals for its $13 billion Encore II Information Technology Solutions contracts has been extended indefinitely.

The request for proposals for Encore II went out Dec. 5, with the original deadline set for Jan. 30. But John Garing, DISA's CIO, said some questions came up during the process, and the deadline needed to be moved back.

A DISA spokesman said Garing wouldn't elaborate further.

"I think you'll hear something this week about the duration of this," Garing said today at a federal executive breakfast sponsored by market research firm Input Inc. of McLean, Va.

Under the 10-year Encore II program, multiple indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contracts will cover hardware, software, licenses and services for DOD and other government agencies.

The IT buying vehicle is envisioned to migrate Defense agencies and services to an integrated environment consistent with the Joint Vision 2020 concept.
