Florida county taps CompuDyne for records management

Volusia County, Fla., is implementing a new records management system that will allow for better information sharing and make the county's public safety and law enforcement agencies more effective.

CompuDyne-Public Safety and Justice Inc. won a $2 million contract with Volusia County to provide the records management system. It will serve the county sheriff's department and up to 18 other law enforcement agencies throughout the county, the company said in a statement.

The records management system will consolidate and automate records processing and criminal investigations. Local law enforcement agencies will be able to use the regional database to store information about arrests, citations, contacts, incidents and pawned property while maintaining their own data and security parameters.

The regional system will let law enforcement officials conduct queries to link related incidents and perpetrators, locate stolen property and indicate crime patterns and trends across jurisdictional boundaries.

The system includes an automated report-writing feature. Officers will be able to enter, access and transfer their accident and case reports from the field, increasing the speed and accuracy of incident reporting and permitting officers to spend more time outside of the office.

CompuDyne-Public Safety and Justice is a division of CompuDyne Corp., Annapolis, Md. The company has about 726 employees and revenue of $142.8 million in fiscal 2004, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
