Maryland taps ACS for child support work

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won a five-year contract from the Maryland Department of Human Resources to deploy a system to process child support payments.

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. won a five-year contract from the Maryland Department of Human Resources to deploy a system to process child support payments. The contract value was not disclosed.

The system, commonly known as a state disbursement unit, is expected to enhance client services in a cost-effective manner, according to state officials.

The system provides a number of services associated with child payments, including receipting, processing, and imaging for more than 4.5 million child support payments annually as well as customer service. ACS also will be responsible for the ongoing marketing of electronic payment services.

ACS Government and Community Solutions business unit will provide the services called for under the contract. ACS provides similar child support services to 13 state disbursement units.

ACS of Dallas has more than 55,000 employees and had annual sales of $4.3 billion in fiscal 2005.
