After spending almost a quarter-century in government, former Air Force CIO John Gilligan is joining one of the country's largest systems integrators.
SRA International Inc. of Fairfax, Va., announced today that Gilligan is joining the company as vice president and deputy director of its defense sector. Gilligan will be responsible for the management and administration, performance, staffing and marketing of SRA's work with the Defense Department, defense agencies and military services and installations.
Gilligan said he chose SRA for several reasons. "I've known the company for as long as I've been in government. Early on I worked closely with SRA on several things and held them in high regard," he said. "When I interviewed with them, I was impressed with their operating style and their growth pattern."
Another factor in his decision was that the company's senior leadership includes a number of former government executives who "have done very well. They seem to have been able to leverage their expertise very well," he said.
Gilligan stepped down from his last government position, CIO of the Air Force, in May, after he helped direct the reorganization of that service's CIO, warfighting integration and communications operations into a single directorate. From 1998 to 2000, he served as CIO of the Energy Department.
His separation from the Air Force becomes official in late August, he said, adding that his retirement ceremony was held just over a week ago.
Gilligan will start at SRA Aug. 29.
