L-3 wins $250 million TSA maintenance deal

L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems has won a five-year, $250 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration to continue providing maintenance for explosive detection systems, the company said today.

L-3 will maintain the eXaminer explosive detection systems and Linescan TIP-Ready X-ray systems that are installed at checkpoints in some of the nation's largest airports.

The new contract also will cover any additional L-3 explosive detection systems that are purchased during the contract.

The company has installed more than 18,000 units of various models for security needs that range from baggage explosives detection to port and border inspection.

L-3 Communications Security and Detection Systems is a unit of L-3 Communications Inc. of New York. The company has about 44,000 employees and annual sales of $6.8 billion. It ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology's 2005 Top 100 list, which measures federal contracting revenue.
