DHS sets portal timeline

The Homeland Security Department this month began an evaluation of technologies and vendor products as it prepares for a March request for proposals for its enterprise portal initiative.

A team headed by Max Ramsay, acting director of information and application delivery in the department's CIO office, is evaluating anything from records management software to smart-identification-card technologies to business intelligence products.

"Our goal is to provide robust environments for enterprise solutions," he said. "It is not an automatic thought that this will result in one big, megaportal."
