GSA closing in on SmartBuy deal with Oracle

The General Services Administration is on a roll as it closes in another big target for SmartBuy, its enterprise software license program.

The General Services Administration has hooked another of the big three for its enterprise software license program.

In a notice, GSA said it intends to establish an enterprise license with Oracle Corp. for software products, technical support, consulting and training services.

GSA said Oracle is the second largest vendor behind only Microsoft Corp. in sales to federal agencies. Federal Sources Inc. of Chantilly, Va., estimates that Oracle sells more than $200 million worth of software and services to the government each year.

This is GSA's third SmartBuy announcement in the past two weeks. Late last month, the agency said it would enter into deals with IBM Corp. and antivirus vendors. GSA officials said the IBM and antivirus blanket purchasing agreement were two of five deals they want to finish this year.
