CA to buy security vendor

Computer Associates International Inc. will acquire identity management company Netegrity Inc. for about $430 million in cash. The companies expect to close the deal by the end of the year.

Waltham, Mass.-based Netegrity develops software for controlling access to IT networks. Its products are deployed at the Defense Information Systems Agency, the Federal Aviation Administration, the IRS and other federal, state and local agencies.

Kenneth Cron, Computer Associates' chief executive officer, said the acquisition would strengthen the company's identity and access management portfolio. Netegrity's operations will be integrated with Computer Associates' eTrust Identity and Access Management group.
