Dell founder steps down as CEO

Michael Dell

Michael Dell will step down as chief executive officer of the company he founded 20 years ago and that bears his name. He will continue as chairman of the board of Round Rock, Texas-based Dell Inc., the company said.

Effective July 16, Kevin Rollins, president and chief operating officer, will assume the CEO title. He also will be nominated to the company's board.

The company said Dell will remain involved in the computer giant's day-to-day business, leaving intact a two-man senior management team that Dell and Rollins have used for seven years.
