Calibre acquires Strategic Management Initiatives

Calibre Inc. of Alexandria, Va., today acquired Strategic Management Initiatives Inc., a management consulting firm that provides strategic management and engineering analysis services to the government in areas such as environmental services and nuclear engineering and licensing.

SMI's customers include the Army, Navy and Energy Department. The Gaithersburg, Md.-based company had about $5.1 million in revenue in 2003.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Strategic Management Initiatives is an excellent fit with our plan for corporate growth, bringing new customers to Calibre and enhancing capabilities and relationships we have with current customers," said William DePuy Jr., Calibre's president and chief executive officer.

Calibre has about 350 employees and revenues of $51 million last year. The employee-owned company provides management analysis and decision support, information technology solutions, and operations support to defense and civilian agencies.

Focus Enterprises Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based investment bank, advised and assisted on the transaction.
