Defense Department releases list of top contractors

The Defense Department awarded prime contracts in fiscal 2003 totaling $209 billion, $28.2 billion more than in fiscal 2002.

According to a report released today, the department's top 10 prime contractors for 2003 and the value of their contracts are:

1. Lockheed Martin Corp., $21.9 billion

2. Boeing Co., $17.3 billion

3. Northrop Grumman Corp., $11.1 billion

4. General Dynamics Corp., $8.2 billion

5. Raytheon Co., $7.9 billion

6. United Technologies Corp., $4.5 billion

7. Halliburton Co., $3.9 billion

8. General Electric Co., $2.8 billion

9. Science Applications International Corp., $2.6 billion

10. Computer Sciences Corp., $2.5 billion

Among the top 10 contractors, Halliburton was the biggest mover, up from No. 37 in 2002. CSC moved up from No. 21 in 2002.

The top three companies remain unchanged.

Every company in the top 10 saw an increase in the dollar volume of prime contracts over fiscal 2002.
