Tier wins Alabama, Minnesota human services deals

Tier Technologies Inc. has won two human services contracts totaling more than $9 million, the company announced this month.

Tier of Walnut Creek, Calif., won a two-year, $6 million contract extension from Alabama Department of Human Resources to operate the state's child support payment center, and a two-year, $3 million subcontract from BearingPoint Inc. to support Minnesota's unemployment insurance program.

Under the Alabama contract, Tier is responsible for processing most child support payments for the state. The company will handle the ongoing payment processing and bank return items, as well as engage in customer service and collection activities.

Under the Minnesota contract, Tier will provide call center and unemployment insurance system implementation services as part of a business process re-engineering and technology modernization project for Minnesota's Unemployment Insurance Program. BearingPoint of McLean, Va., is the prime contractor on the project.

Tier Technologies, a provider of business and information technology consulting systems design and systems integration, has about 830 employees and annual sales of $103 million, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
