Callahan will not seek second term as AFFIRM president

The Association for Federal Information Resources Management yesterday said Laura Callahan will not run for a second term as the organization's president.

The Association for Federal Information Resources Management yesterday said Laura Callahan, the embattled Homeland Security Department senior director in the office of the CIO, will not run for a second term as the organization's president.

Callahan asked for her name to be withdrawn from the ballot, leaving incoming vice president Scott Hastings, CIO of the bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement at DHS, the likely next president of AFFIRM.

Association members will elect a new board Friday at its annual awards luncheon.

AFFIRM also postponed its President's Dinner until the fall when a new president officially has taken charge.

Callahan assumed the presidency in January after former Environmental Protection Agency chief technology officer Debra Stouffer, then the AFFIRM president, accepted a position with the private sector.

Callahan is on paid administrative leave from DHS while officials look into questions about her academic credentials.

AFFIRM also announced the members running for board positions. The board is made up of a federal employee and someone from the private sector. The next board likely will be:

  • Michelle Heffner, director, Interagency Management Division, in the General Services Administration's Office of Electronic Government and Technology, for co-vice president, programs

  • Harold Klink, vice president, SI International Inc. of McLean, Va., for co-vice president, programs

  • Lisa Akers, deputy director, GSA Federal Technology Service's Federal Systems Integration and Management Center, for co-secretary

  • Kenneth Touloumes, vice president of business development for Titan System Corp. of San Diego for co-secretary

  • Mark Day, deputy CIO for EPA, for co-treasurer

  • Leslie Barry, director of business development for Computer Associates International Inc., for co-treasurer.
