San Diego taps Identix for fingerprinting systems

Identix Inc. has won a contract from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to provide 15 additional fingerprint ID systems.

Identix Inc. has won a contract from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to provide 15 additional Live Scan fingerprint identification systems, the company announced May 28.

Under the contract, Identix of Minnetonka, Minn., will provide 10 Tenprinter live scan, four Fingerprinter CMS and one Tenprinter transportable Live Scan systems.

Live Scan is a patented system manufactured by Identix that captures, stores and transmits high-quality fingerprint images.

The systems will be deployed to sheriff's stations and other law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County, the company said.

With the scanners, there are now 29 Indentix live scan systems deployed by the San Diego County sheriff's stations and various county police departments. Identix expects to ship and install the $550,000 order by the end of June.

Identix is a provider of biometric security technologies to the government and commercial sectors. The company has about 400 employees and had annual sales of $73.2 million in fiscal 2002, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
