Harris Corp. named Howard Lance president and chief executive officer of the Melbourne, Fla., company. He replaces Phillip Farmer, who will continue as chairman of the board and as an employee until the end of the company's fiscal year in June.
Lance, 47, takes the helm Feb. 1. He was most recently president of NCR Corp. and chief operating officer of its retail and financial group, which had revenue in excess of $4 billion. Before that, he was executive vice president of Emerson Electric Co., heading its electronics and communications segment, with annual sales of $3 billion.
"Howard comes to Harris as a seasoned executive," Farmer said of his successor. "He has an excellent operations background and broad experience in communications markets."
Harris is an international communications equipment and systems integration company focusing on government and commercial markets. The company's five operating divisions include government communications, tactical radio, broadcast, microwave and network support systems.
The company employed 9,700 people in fiscal 2002, and had revenue of almost $1.9 billion.
